I had the good fortune to work on The Simpson's style guide: a sprawling binder of art and product ideas that is given to manufacturers who sign up to license The Simpson's brand for clothing lines, toys, and posters. Here is an information-packed timeline of Simpson pop culture.

The Simpsons Poster

The_simpsons_poster

This is the most famous thing I've designed. The original work was for the cover of The Simpsons Style Guide, a giant binder of artwork and merchandize ideas Fox supplied to vendors who signed up to be licensees. I've had some weird moments related to my Simpson's work. My brother bought the poster for my son for his 14th birthday not knowing I designed it. My sister, Lisa, bought a Simpson's bookmark that said Lisa even if you turn it upside down. I had been doing ambigrams for years. She said, 'Michael, they stole your idea.' She didn't know I designed the bookmark. A guy at a startup I worked at had a lunch pail with the poster image. When I mention I designed it, people look at me like, 'Yeah, right.' Matt Groening was nice enough to send over signed posters for everyone who worked on the project.
