Father

I love visual mnemonics. I've written books on learning Japanese kanji with the help of illustrations that match the shape of kanji and convey their meaning. This is my favorite of the 1500 visuals I've created so far. The original images that this kanji is based on comes from a pictograph of a hand holding a stick. It represents the authority, discipline, and punishment of fathers. I like my visual way better. Here is kanji mnemonic number 189 of 1945.

I love Aztecs poster

Barstow gets a bad rap as a pit-stop on the way to Vegas. Many Barstow High alumni have led accomplished lives as authors, entrepreneurs, news casters, pro football players, a Miss California scholarship winner, and proud parents, and community leaders. For my high school reunion, I decided to give the school the professional brand it deserves.

The Game - Movie Premiere Invitation

The Game was PolyGram's first feature film with their name on it and they wanted to make a splash. This movie premiere invitation is made of five puzzle cards and an invite wrapped in a clover-shaped envelope that folds open to reveal a maze of visuals from the movie. After the invites went out, James Cameron called the studio to ask who designed the piece.

Email postcard reminder for our high school reunion. I kind of like that it looks like a Jose Cuervo label.

Star Wars Packaging Exploration

For this project for Lucas Arts, I took an existing font and manipulated the forms and added a rough-hewn bevel. The background was made from soil, fire, and a ruler from stock images.
